Important Update - Network Participation for Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center

This letter is meant to provide you with information regarding our agreement with Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center in Secaucus, New Jersey. Occasionally, for a variety of reasons, a relationship ends between our network and a health care facility. Beginning November 1, 2014, Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center will no longer participate in the UnitedHealthcare and Oxford networks.

We are taking precautionary measures to help minimize the impact felt by our members by Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center becoming nonparticipating. As part of this plan, we are mailing letters to affected commercial group members to notify them of the termination. Please view the samples below of the letters being sent to non-HMO fully insured commercial members.

When speaking to your clients, please keep in mind the following points:

  • We will have Transitional Care guidelines in place so members who have scheduled or ongoing medical treatments at Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center will continue to get care as appropriate.
  • After October 31, 2014, to receive in-network non-emergent services, a primary care physician or specialist should not refer non-HMO members to Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center for any treatment or test. Instead, members should be referred to one of the major neighboring hospitals in our network, as listed below. Neighboring hospitals in Hudson County are:

  • Jersey City Medical Center
  • Palisades Medical Center

  • Consistent with the four-month cooling off period mandated by the State of New Jersey, New Jersey fully insured commercial HMO members will be able to access Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center on an in-network basis through February 28, 2015.

We will continue to work toward a positive outcome of affordable health care for our employers and their plan participants and will let you know if Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center rejoins our network. If you would like more information or have questions, please contact your sales representative.
